Preventing Image Noise

The VB Series (Keyence) camera uses a high-sensitivity CCD. However, noise elements in the CCD video signal increase or decrease in tandem with the temperature of the CCD. Because it is necessary to reduce the noise level for observation with low signal levels, e.g. fluorescence observation, the VB Series camera cools down the CCD with a peltiert device to minimize the "thermal noise". The peltiert device is a flat shaped element; one side of which becomes cold while the other becomes warm when current is applied. The cooling level (calorific value) is controllable by adjusting the volume and direction of the electric current.
